You all could smoke up some . . .no, wait, that's illegal.
How about having her over and cooking for her? It's a lot cheaper, and women love that (and you could play up the whole Cajun thing.) Plus, there is the added advantage that she's already in your apartment - um...skip that last bit in the "Texas Living" section . . .
Really, all you need is to go by Eatzi's and pick up some picnic things . . .maybe some nice Tuscan salami or something, some bread, cheeses, a veggie sald or something, cookies . . .wine is out with your budget, but you could get some nice water or bottled lemonade. Then just head a couple of blocks over to Lakeside Park on Turtle creeks. Lay out a blanket, talk, read her some of your favorite poems, and then have her read you some of hers. Then you all could walk off your meal along the trail as you hold hands and feed the ducks.
Not really a "night" out, but that's all you need.

I lived in Dallas for a while and miss it dearly. Here's some cheap junk mi amour and I used to like to do:

* Up in Allen, there's this neat nature conservancy called Connemara that used to, in spring, I think, host these outdoor interactive sculptures. Always a lot of fun and the admission was free.

* I'm pretty sure two people can eat at Queen of Sheeba for less than $30. Great Ethipoian food that you eat with your hands, mopping up the food with this yummy flatbread. (Info on the restaurant here: http://www.utdallas.edu/~eden/queen_of_sheba.html )

* Nickel Ranch is ass-kickingly good fun...old pinballs and arcade games that are only a nickel per play (1904 Abrams Pkwy. (214) 874-0555).

* We also liked some of the touristy stuff like the Arboretum (especially the easter egg hunt) and the planetarium (which only cost like $3 to get in if I remember right)

* Also...what's that big building with the funky arch-like top near the DMA? Trammel Crow? Whatever it is, you can, like, go to the top of it for free and get a great view of the city. Just ask the folks at the security booth as you enter.

This is probably something for a double date, though. The turnaround would be too fast if there were just two of you.
