Having grown up near the Eanes school district, this "need" they mention trying to meet makes me a little ill. When I was in high school, Westlake went to the state football championship and lost. Shortly thereafter, faced with overcrowded schools and shortfalls (they had to place an enrollment cap on band and orchestra), the school board put a bond to vote on before the voters in the district. And it failed. Parents of students went on television and said they didn't want to break up the winning football team (the bond package provided funds to build a needed second high school). I've had little respect for the district ever since. If this district produces such smart and industrious students, why not get some of them to figure out a way to do more with less?
